WCS Fine Arts
The visual arts, music and theatre programs at Westminster Christian School are designed to
explore and develop the creative abilities God has given each individual.
Students will experience the challenge and the joy that comes with creative expression. The staff, administration and leaders of Westminster are fully committed to the fine arts and their success at WCS and beyond.
Art is woven into the curriculum beginning in preschool. Art
educator directed projects in grades 1-8 expose students to several artistic
methods allowing them to experiment and grow. Through on-campus
studio experiences, students investigate the use of various mediums,
techniques, elements, and principles of design. Courses such as ceramics,
drawing, painting, photography, and honors art give students an opportunity to
build a strong foundation for collegiate study and life-long expression.
Our music program is designed to expose
students to a variety of musical styles and genres while developing both theory
and performance. Elementary students participate in a general music class
providing them with a strong musical foundation. Beginning in 4th
grade, students are also given the opportunity to participate
in band to build on their musical development. Curricular and
extra-curricular choral and band ensembles are offered at both the middle and
high school levels. Additional music courses include Music Appreciation,
Music Theory, and Music Technology.
Westminster has made a strong commitment to
the advancement of their theatre department. The middle and high school
each produce a play and a musical annually. WCS offers a Drama Club that
competes in IHSA events. Students interested in learning more about
acting and the theatre are able to take the course, Acting Appreciation.
