Homeroom/Advocacy Program
Homerooms provide each student an adult mentor who will ideally stay with them for the entirety of their middle school or high school career. (For advocacy at the elementary level see the note at the bottom of the page.) This program provides an accountability point during the day.
The mission of the homeroom advocacy program is to help students grow spiritually, intellectually, and socially by fostering individual, as well as community growth. The goal of the program is to help strengthen both student-teacher and student-student relationships, promote spiritual growth, help students utilize school resources, provide each student with an adult advocate, monitor students' academic progress, and foster communication between school and home.
Each advocate (teacher) will work with their group of students to create a unique community feel. This way, students and teacher will know each other on a more personal level. Specific goals of the program include the following:
* To provide a welcoming setting for students at the start of the day - a place to share and pray as a group
* To model relationship building among students and faculty/staff
* To foster an environment for academic success
* To promote a safe environment for discussing biblical truths
* To provide a communication network involving students, parents, and the school
* To promote community spirit and identity
* To provide for the transition of students to Westminster Christian School
* To provide time for necessary administrative routines and school business
* To share God's Word through devotions and discussion
Each homeroom advocate will do the following:
* Open each day with prayer
* Begin each year by reviewing/studying the WCS Community Covenant
* Monitor student grades on an ongoing basis
* Have an intentional devotional time with students
Fellowship Activities:
* Service projects as a homeroom
* Breakfast time as a homeroom
* Homeroom competitions
NOTE: At the elementary level, these things happen naturally as elementary students have the same homeroom teacher all day long. Elementary teachers engage in the activities listed above every day.
