WCS School Board
The WCS School Board is comprised of a 12-member team affirmed for a three-year term by the Nominating Committee of the school board.
2011-2012 WCS School Board
Front Row (Left to Right): Jerry Holmer, Janet Kmieciak, Deb Hoon, Holly Taritas, John Sleeting
Back Row (Left to Right): Rich Engle, Marc Beachler, Patrick Bertsche, Kevin Carani, Tom Siewert,
Bill Donahue, and Rich Nay
Duties of the school board include the following:
I. The WCS School Board shall administer the affairs of the School in the spirit of this Constitution under the supervision of the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
II. The Board effectively carries out its responsibilities through three functions: to be a review organ, to appoint and remove administrators and teachers, and to be a public and community relations agent.
A. As a review organ the Board counsels, advises, and deliberates with its administration.
It determines "what" directions the school is to take. It reviews the school's goals and
performance determining that they:
(i) are appropriate to the mission,
(ii) are being accomplished effectively,
(iii) are being accomplished efficiently, and
(iv) are being accomplished with good staff, students, and parent morale.
B. The Board's appointment and removal of administrators and teachers (contract
personnel) is a function which insures the integrity of the school.
C. As representatives of an Association that serves a broad community, Board members are public and community agents. Members need to hear and to talk with their publics.
The school needs to be in touch with its publics, to be seen as a leader for Christian education, and to be known as being responsive to the people.
III. The Board determines: (1) direction, (2) boundaries (policy and budgets), and (3) standards
of performance. In a sense, the Board is similar to someone who decides to build a house. The Board approves what the "house" will be (blueprints and specifications) and what they pay for the "house." The staff determines how the "house" will be built. The Board is also responsible for insuring the integrity of the decisions that are made and the expected performance.
A. The Board:
1. determines what the Christian School is to do.
2. establishes policies, standards of performance, and budgets (sometimes called the
"boundaries" within which the staff operates).
3. reviews appropriateness, effectiveness, and efficiency of the programs ensuring the
achievement of the school's mission with a high level of spirituality and integrity.
B. Board Committees serve the Board by studying existing programs and proposed changes and then recommending changes which will, if accepted, modify:
1. what the Christian school is to do.
2. policies, standards of performance and budgets.
Please pray regularly for our School Board and their leadership toward continuing the great ministry of Westminster Christian School.
