Each teacher makes the spiritual growth of students a top priority. As followers of Christ, our teachers build each lesson and relationship on the truth of Scripture. In partnership with parents and churches, Westminster Christian School prayerfully and lovingly guides young lives to grow in faith and understanding. From the classroom to chapel to daily activities, children see the beauty, wonder, and grace of Jesus in all things. It is within this warm and attentive environment that the child’s spiritual life buds and begins to grow.
Chapel provides our students with the opportunity and joy of worshipping our Lord Jesus Christ. As a Christian community, we gather on a weekly basis for worship. Each level of the school (elementary, middle school, and high school) participates in a chapel service uniquely created for their age group. The elementary students meet on Wednesday mornings for 30 minutes. Elementary school chapel shares the Good News and the truths and stories of God’s Word through engaging worship songs, various multimedia, skits/plays, and the words of staff, local youth leaders, pastors, and parents. Very often prayer and singing is led by students ready to lead in this way. We encourage every family to join us for Chapel and rejoice in what God is doing in and through our elementary school.
Faith In Action
The goal of our Faith in Action program is to encourage our students to use their time, talents, and resources to glorify God and be a blessing to others in our local community. Each grade level connects with a specific organization and serves on location 3 -4 times per year enabling us to build strong relationships. Our students learn what it means to love and worship God as we love others. We value the partnerships we have built with the following organizations over the years:
Kindergarten – Highland Oaks (Retirement Center)
Grade 1 – Century Oaks Elementary School
Grade 2 – Illinois Park School
Grade 3 – Northern Illinois Food Bank
Grade 4 – Wheaton Bible Church
Grade 5 – Feed My Starving Children
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse that sends shoe boxes filled with small gifts to needy children in other countries. This is an excellent way for our students to share God’s blessings in a tangible way with a peer in another country. Before making their way to a specific destination, the story of Christ’s birth and His love for them is placed in each shoe box in the child’s own language. Our elementary classrooms take the time to collect items and assemble these shoe boxes in school during the month of November.
Highland Oaks Retirement Center
In the final year of the elementary experience, our fifth grade class serves residents on a weekly basis at the Highland Oaks Retirement Center. A small group of students assist the residents with their weekly bowling activity. It is a blessing to watch our fifth graders interacting with the residents, and they enjoy the enthusiasm, warmth, and kindness our students display as they live out their faith.
